I’ve been remiss in posting and I know that. I’m taking a bit of a break from the godless stuff for a while. This dumbfuckery with/from Freethought Blogs and Thundrerf00t have put me off. I’m surprised how much it’s affected me considering how I’ve essentially got nothing to do with the ‘community’.
I am ambivalent about Thunderf00t releasing info from a private mailing list that he was legitimately added. I’m disappointed by what was released. Maybe disgusted. I don’t know.
That Matt Dillahunty is chiming in as well disappoints me. I’m fucking over this shit. I’ve un-followed a bunch of people who’s opinions I used to enjoy. I’ve stopped reading blogs I previously read… religiously. I’m not watching the video’s I used to.
I’m a bit disillusioned about the atheist/skeptical community at the moment. Perhaps it was overdue; I probably had unreasonably high expectations of people to begin with.
As it turns out, everybody is the same. Most people are assholes, even godless liberals. The only thing this ongoing drama has taught me is this: be more sceptical of everybody – they are probably worse people than you think.
I’ll post again when some religionut pisses me off enough or if some awesome science inspires me.

I see your point. It is tempting just to say, “Wake me up when this nonsense is over.” Part of the reason I can’t quite bring myself to do that is that it seems hypocritical to give our fellow atheists a pass on behavior we would not hesitate to call out in the religious.
You make an excellent point. Maybe when I think of something to say that isn’t or can’t be translated as “you all can go fuck yourselves” I might do so.
Hope you find your inner-llama again. Don’t want your furry bits dropping off.
Where does “running into somebody promoting homoeopathy at the Chemist” fit in?
… or some other profound idiocy insists on occurring where I must observe it? Somewhere there I think.
I won’t pretend to understand all the ins and outs of the confrontation. I am surprised by it all.
Love Thunderfoots videos and love PZ’s blog so I like to think that whoever is in the wrong, I’m going to lose out one way or another.
You mentioned Dillahunty chiming in and that concerned me. Watched a lot of Matt on youtube and he’s very clear-headed and reasonable. If he says there’s a problem then it’s hard for me to ignore that. He not the sort to make statements he can’t back up.(Though there’s always a first time.)
The impression that I’m getting is that Thunderfoot has made a mess of things.
I’ve watched Thunderfoots video (PZ Myers and the Art of Shameless Dishonesty) where he explains himself and I’m disturbed by his lack of empathy for Rebecca Watson. He doesn’t seem to “get” what the women in the atheist community are saying. He certainly doesn’t treat their complaints seriously. Everything gets put in the “Hey, it’s just trolls/Boys will be boys” bucket and that is supposed to be that. I can’t support that attitude at all.
I have a standard when I comes to a group within a larger society that has had clear and present grievances in the past and that makes current claims that equality has not been reached.
When the minority itself drops it as an issue, then it’s really no longer an issue.
If the dominant majority says that it’s all good and “they” are just bitching then…that’s a red flag for me.
I’ll know when black people feel they are not singled out by the police when black people keep saying that they are not singled out by police.
I’ll know that homsexuals feel they are fully recognised as being normal and free of bigotry when their own communities come out and tell me so.
I’ll know that women feel safe from sexual harrassment and intimidation when they themselves as a community spell it out for the rest of us loud and clear.
Works for atheists too.
When the atheist community says that there hasn’t been any genuine discrimination against atheists in a Wookie’s age and that it’s blindingly obvious that we’re living in a secular society with no backsliding, then (and only then) will I be prepared to believe it.
I’m looking at the women in the atheist community and..too many of them are not happy. I read some of the ugly comments that pollute their facebook pages and blogs and I can see why. There is a large disparity between men and women in the atheist community. It’s a real thing. It’s not for men to pat themselves on the back and say” Hey, we’re good. We’ve done all we can. What are they bitching about?”
If they are bitching, then we need to start listening and not just automatically get defensive or dismissive.
