There’s not much to say about the Noah’s Ark story. The only people who believe it actually happened are a bunch of reality deprived Biblical literalists and God knows (heh) they’re delusional. The video’s below (by that awesome Aussie, NonStampCollector) more than adequately shows how ridiculous the story is (just in case, you know, you don’t happen to know how ridiculous the story is…)
Part 1
Part 2
I do wonder why an omnipotent being would be so… stupid about the whole thing? Perhaps God was experiencing an epic case of boredom…

That was funny. It certainly highlights the nonsense of the Noah’s ark story. However…. it ‘is’ just a story, invented by man…… a mythical story that’s been included in the bible at some point. The problem arises when people who follow the bible, see it as a book of ‘truth’…… and believe the made up stories to be true also. It utterly defies logic. When I hear people say that, I don’t even bother arguing it….. just shake my head in dumbfounded wonder. Deacon Jake also believes this story to be true. Utterly.
Unbelievably, many leaders of churches today still teach that these stories are the true word of God….. it certainly makes one consider how ‘brainwashing’ can manipulate thought patterns….. even in intelligent people.
The brainwashing and lies start with toddlers, within the homes of christians…… get reinforced at sunday school…. throughout their lives…an so on and so on. Some people are wired in such a way that they think for themselves…. others are like sheep, they just plod along and believe what others tell them. But that’s the same for all cultures in the world… there’s no free will with us humans really, I don’t think. Even you and I are expressing the views of someone we agree with, who has researched and found out that ‘truth’ for themselves. We think it sounds good and do exactly what the believers of religion do. We preach non-religion. We are believers of something. Would it be fair comment that a true atheist keeps ‘off’ the subject of religion totally? ….. just something to think about.
I suppose the closest thing to free will, would be a person that accepts nothing as truth (like one such as Einstein), and they establish that truth for themselves. Thy never try to enforce their views on others, they just present their findings and only ever ‘question’. They keep an ‘open’ mind. A closed mind loses its ability to learn. That seems logical to me.
‘True Atheist’ is a misnomer. You either are an atheist or you’re not.
Like I said before, if the religious were to withdraw from public involvement entirely and I never had to hear from another religionut again, I wouldn’t mention religion again. What would be the point?
We (outspoken atheists) don’t go on about Greek mythology or Roman mythology or Norse mythology because people believing in those stories don’t affect us.
I can assure you, if a billion person Cult of the Flying Unicorn had to suddenly arise and they tried to affect public policy in their favour I would immediately be an outspoken a-unicornist. (I am an a-unicornist right now, obviously, but I don’t blog about it…)
A great many educated “someone’s” with a pile of hard empirical evidence published and peer reviewed, successfully defended against criticism while following a logical process that has been proven correct through a great many accurate predictions. Science. Because if works.
There is a difference between the scientific method and theology: The one has empirical evidence and the other is pure conjecture.
Get them young and you have them for life eh? It’s true, kids are wired to accept what adults tell them (scientifically proven) and some adults lie to their children and tell them the Bible is full of facts. Convincing an educated adult that the Noah’s ark story is true is much harder than convincing a toddler… but I generalise, obviously there are a plethora of adult Christians who believe it… You’d think they’d be a little more embarrassed.
There are a couple of key points about the whole Noah’s ark tale that one should consider.
1. It plagiarised the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Oops.
2. How do you get two of every animal from Australia and South America to the Middle East?
Teleportation? Magic?
3. How do you build an ark big enough to hold 2 million species of animal and enough food for several years?
You don’t.
4. How do you stop 2 million species of animal from eating each other?
You don’t.
5. What do 2 million species of animal eat after the year is up since half of those animals are food for the other half.
You have to wait for several animals to procreate enough so that other animals can eat the children. You’d have to, along with all the food, also take a seed from virtually every plant since few plants would survive being under several kilometres of water.
6. How do you not have genetic defects after just two of every species have populated the entire world?
You don’t. It’s a proven fact, and any farmer can tell you this, that two animals cannot alone re-populate a species.
7. If you accept the rationalisation that ‘micro evolution’ is responsible for all the species we see today, why stop short of accepting evolution by natural selection?
The evidence you apply for one works just as well for the other. Of course there is no evidence for natural selection being able to operate in only 6000 years. Why do you use evidence for one part of your fairy tale but make up a story for the other part? Cognitive dissonance?
8. Why is there literally no evidence for a global flood?
Because there wasn’t a global flood. The Egyptians, Sumerians, Africans and Chinese must have been able to breathe under water.
9. If we are all descended from anywhere between 8 and God knows how many people depending on which mental hoops you’re trying to jump through… why does genetics and hard evidence show otherwise?
Because it’s a fairy tale.
10. Most importantly, why would the creator of the universe, a being able to invent a universe and make it from scratch need to go through the ridiculous process of piling animals into a freaking boat to save them from a flood?
Why do Christians think so little of the ‘almighty’.
Christians believe this insanely ridiculous story because they HAVE to believe this story. If you desperately need to believe the rest of the Bible you have to accept stupid shit you wouldn’t otherwise believe. Do Christians believe the ridiculous Hindu creation stories? No, they don’t. Why not? Because they are freaking ridiculous but if believing those stories were a requirement to believe some other stories Christians would do what Christians do that irritate me so much.
They would impose idiocy on themselves and go right ahead and believe it.
You are a fuckin twit. If you don’t believe then why do you have to out of your way to criticize the God and the Bible. If you had any sense of life you would just say what you are and leave it there, but you go out of your way to publish atheism and disrespect the Bible and God. Know that when the day comes, Christ will not listen to your pleas and will return what you had delivered to him.
Well thats if i don’t get hold of you first… Just wait, listen to me wisely, the day is coming… Not the end of the world, no, thats is still long from now. A new chapter is to be opened in a few decades.
Thanks. You are a pious, holier than thou, sanctimonious, delusional, marginally retarded, jackass, asshole.
Because it’s wrong, ludicrous, dangerous and it is taught to children as if it were true. And people like you.
And I’ll stop, when every batshit insane religion peddling moron stops trying to push their ridiculous bronze age superstition and death cultism on everybody else. Shut up about your ‘belief’, never talk about it again in public and you’ll never hear from me again. Will you do that? I mean, I ask, since here you are, on MY blog trying to tell ME what to think and do. Who the fuck do you think you are exactly anyway?
Sure. Can’t wait for the day. He’s got quite a bit to answer for.
That sounds like a threat. It’s a common thing for religious morons, once they realise they are too stupid to win an argument, to resort to vague threats. Stupid is as stupid does, after all. Congratulations, you are such a winner. I look forward to you ‘getting hold of’ me.
Yea. Delusional. That is what you are. And prescient apparently. Might I remind you, oh religious warrior of awesome: Ecclesiastes 8:7, Ecclesiastes 10:14, Mark 13:32… I guess you’re going to burn for that.
Such a failure, can’t even obey his own deity before he tries to force it on other people.
Why do I ridicule the ridiculous? Because of people like you, John.
This video was filled with many scientific facts. I just wanted to say that God, yes the God of the Bible loves you. I know you think it is crazy that I believe this, but I don’t mind it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. God sent Jesus Christ to die for you and your sins so that you can be reconciled to God as perfect, and have a relationship with him that is unlike like any other. What separated you from God is sin. I’m not saying you are the only person who sins because everyone sins except Jesus. I sin! But I am no longer bound to the ‘chains’ of sin because God chose to forgive me and I accepted his free gift of salvation. Sure there are so many things in the Bible that don’t seem logical because we cannot understand how God the Father was able to do these things, but you have to keep in mind that he is not human and does not act as a human or have the human restrictions like us. God may seem unloving to you because he sent the flood, and did other things to humans. But! He is loving because he is choosing right now to preserve your life. He chooses to let you have good days and bad days, just like everyone else. He loves you just like every Christian, and non-Christian. The reason why he sent the flood and other things such as famines and snakes and plagues is because he is not only love. He is also wrathful, jealous, self centered, unchanging, merciful, perfect, wise, and so much more. He being wrathful to us is viewed as something that’s wrong because it means that we are in the line of his wrath. But when you look at it, he punishes us because we sin against every second of the day. When we sin it is against him and him alone. That’s why God sent Jesus to live a perfect life and have God’s wrath be poured out on Him so that one day each person on Earth will choose to make him Lord and the savior of their life or deny Him as God. God must punish sin because he is perfect and wrathful, so he sends people to hell. God is not happy to send people to hell, but when people don’t accept his forgiveness, and don’t want to be a part of his kingdom he must send them to hell because he can not go against his character. I know you probably view me as an idiot who has-been brainwashed, but I don’t believe in the Bible because of anything I have been taught! Before I accepted God’s free gift, and asked for forgiveness of my sins, I was in a hapless wreck. I believe in the Bible because of how God has changed my life and the lives of others. I have a personal relationship with God because of what Jesus has done for me not because of what I have said or done. I’m not trying to make you agree with what I am saying I’m just asking you to think about what I’ve said with out prejudice, and you can just email me if you have any questions, or just want to voice your opinion on what I believe.
Hally,
It’s not often I see somebody type so much and say so little.
I do not worship things that drown babies. I don’t worship things that command slavery, genocide, infanticide, rape and torture. I don’t worship things that invent rules that require a woman to marry her rapist.
I don’t worship allegedly almighty beings who are said to be able to do literally anything, has the power to do anything but requires a scapegoat human sacrifice to forgive somebody else. You’re so happy to point out that this god of your sent his son to be tortured and murdered on your behalf so that he could be convinced to forgive you. Why couldn’t the ‘almighty’ not just… forgive you? Why did he have to have a bloody gruesome sacrifice do that and why are you OK with it?
But more to the point: I especially don’t worship gods that don’t exist. That would be Yahweh, Zeus, Apollo and Thor.
There is no god Hally and it’s better that way. You alone are responsible for what you do. You alone are responsible for making the best out of this one single life you have.
The bible is bullshit Hally. There is no other nicer way to put it. Reality is so much better than that horrifying collection of bronze age horse shit will have you believe.
I fully understand you will not be reasoned out of something you were not reasoned into so, whatever.
One thing though: Do you follow all 613 commandments in the bible as your deity Jesus Christ explicitly told you to follow in Matthew 5:19-20?
Have a good life.
